Peru Incentive
Classic Peru Explorer
Lima, as the point of entry to the country of Peru, can be characterised by its historic center, archeological sites, nightlife, museums, art galleries, festivals, and popular traditions. Lima is home to a plentiful variety of eatery and bars where regional and international cuisine is served.
A short jaunt through the central district goes through many churches dating from as early as the 16th and 17th centuries the most noteworthy of which being the Cathedral of Lima and the Monastery of San Francisco, of which are said to be connected by their sub terrestrial catacombs. To the south-east and nestled in the Andes lies the former Inca Empire of Cusco.
The Inca Empire arose from the highlands of Peru sometime in early 13th century and was the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. The administrative, political and military center of the empire was located in Cusco in modern-day Peru.
Out in the ‘Sacred Valley’ is the small market town of Pisac and the superlative Inca bastion at Ollantaytambo. The most stunning of Inca sights is This Inca Empire named Machu Picchu known as ‘The lost city on Incas’. Its located 2,430 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level, built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls.
Travelling inland we come to Puno, where we come across the beautiful Lake Titicaca that sits 3,812 m (12,500 ft) above sea level, making it one of the highest commercially navigable lakes in the world
As our adventure comes to a finish we tour via the ancient ruins of Tiahuanaco to La Paz, in Bolivia. We’ll notice that La Paz has a large population of Native residents on a visit to the exceedingly odd Witches Market. La Paz is positioned in a canyon on the 'Altiplano' (High Plains), encircled by snow-capped Mount Illimani.
