Gems of India
Appropriately named, this innovative itinerary covers many of north India’s 'gems'.
Gem one is a white domed marble mausoleum, the Taj Mahal in Agra. The Taj Mahal is the finest example of Mughal architecture; a style that combines elements from Persian, Indian, and Islamic architecture.
Next Gem we travel to is the mighty Agra Fort. Agra Fort is a World Heritage site that can be more accurately described as a walled palatial city. The Mughals governed the country from this fort. It contained the largest state treasury and mint and was visited by foreign ambassadors, travelers and the highest dignitaries who participated in the making of history in India.
The next highlight and rare Gem is the scarce Bengal tiger; we are hopeful of spotting one in Bandhavgarh National Park. Next Gem is Jaipur, the famed Pink City of India; a colorful city famous for its Amber Fort & Palace. We will see the Palace of the Winds, which is a giant facade on the outer wall of the Agra Fort and palace.
We travel to Nimaj where we find perhaps the most ‘valuable’ of Gems. We stay in a magnificent palace that is run by the 23rd descendant of the region’s original ruler. Another remote place, Jojawar, is also on the list and sure to be a favourite for photographers.
Udaipur is a romantic as well as beautiful city with one of the largest palaces in the world. The Udaipur palace has Tripola Gates which are arched gates made from marble. Enjoy a nice drink as the sun sets over the Lake Pichola, which is encircled on all sides by numerous palaces, marble temples, and family mansions.
